Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment for Carpel Tunnel syndrome has been shown to be better than steroid use.

A trial has shown that the use of acupuncture is much better tan using oral steroids for carpel tunnel syndrome. This evidence has been published by the American Pain Society (J Pain. 2011 Feb;12(2):272-9. Epub 2010 Nov 26.)

The results show that the acupuncture group had significantly better results (c. 87% improvement compared to 48.7% for the steroid users). It is better than that because long term benefits were seen despite the short term treatment of the patients. The results go on to say that acupuncture is a possible option for those who do not wish to try the option of surgical decompression.

I find this again heartening that more evidence is coming out about the efficacy of acupuncture.
